Osprey: Return to Jordan Lake (2017)
Each year, Osprey return to Jordan Lake from their long migratory journey to Central and South America. Summer residents here to breed, the annual arrival of the Osprey is a personal favorite wildlife photography opportunity. Over the next several months, I will spend countless hours in the forest and along the shore, observing and photographing this incredible bird.
Inhabiting the many coves of the lake, they put on a display as they build their nests in the tree tops, rear their young and gather to fish south of the Jordan Lake Damn. Visiting that very spot each weekend in early March, this week marked the first sign of the Osprey's return to Jordan Lake this year.
Soaring high above the spillway, the Osprey shared the sky with Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle and various waterfowl. Continuing to adjust to the new Olympus O-MD E-M1 ii and Panasonic Leica 100-400 f/4-6.3, and rising before the sun, the Osprey did not disappoint in the early morning hours.
